BackBlaze Now Requires Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Data backup and cloud storage service BackBlaze recently notified its customers that two-factor authentication will now be required on all accounts.
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is a security policy that requires a secondary means of logging into an account beyond a password. Compromised passwords are a relatively easy commodity to access online as password / email address combinations are often bundled, bought and sold on the Dark Web.
Nodal is encouraging all clients to sign into their accounts as soon as possible to ensure that 2FA is enabled. While the default 2FA method will be via email, we encourage the use of an authenticator app as the best practice for security.
Given the amount of organizational information that can be accessed from backups falling into the wrong hands, as well as the widespread problem of poor password hygiene, using practical cybersecurity such as 2FA should be regarded as crucial for businesses regardless of size.
