VideoCopilot Website Hacked to Distribute Malware

VFX training and tutorial company VideoCopilot has disclosed a “security incident” where its website was hacked to deliver malware.

“Recently we learned our website was used to spread unauthorized malware by redirecting our product download links for certain Windows Installers,” stated an announcement from VideoCopilot founder Andrew Kramer. The company has yet to specify the type of malware distributed or the number of affected parties.

The announcement warns that customers of VideoCopilot that downloaded Windows installers between September 1, 2021 and February 4, 2022 may have been affected, but that the likely window of the incident was much narrower.

While the company has released a removal guide for the malware, they suggest contacting IT service providers to confirm, and have offered technical support through their help desk.

MacOS installers were not affected by the update.
