SanDisk Promises World's Fastest NVMe SSD
SanDisk has announced the release of its new WD Black NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSD (Solid State Drive), hyping it as the world’s fastest PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSD available.
The performance stats, if accurate in real-world scenarios, are impressive: Sequential read speeds of up to 14.9 GB/s, storage capacities of up to 4TB, and 100% greater power efficiency than its previous Gen 4.0 offering.
SanDisk’s announcement was accidentally scooped in early May 2025 when it was listed for pre-order on Amazon.com’s German site.
Assuming the WD Black NVMe SSD performs as promised, it likely represents the outer bounds of the capabilities of PCIe 5.0-enabled drives, which are expected to be replaced by the PCIe 7.0 standard in the near future.
The WD Black NVMe is available for purchase on SanDisk.com.
