Autodesk Releases Low-Cost Version of Maya

Software company Autodesk has just announced the upcoming release of Maya Creative, a low-cost version of its flagship Maya 3D animation software.

The new version will remove certain features and functionality, including the ability to load third-party plugins, soft and rigid body dynamics and cloth and hair toolsets. It will also only be available for MacOS and Windows environments.

Maya Creative will only be available through Autodesk’s token-based payment system and will cost users roughly $90 per month, as compared to $225 per month for the standard Maya subscription.

“We’re launching Maya Creative to make content creation more accessible by lowering the barrier to entry for artists at smaller facilities. This more affordable and flexible version of Maya is a great option for anyone looking to scale capacity or access professional 3D tools,” Autodesk stated in a blog post announcing the release.

The primary goal of Maya Creative is apparently to fill the gap between lower-end indie subscriptions available to individuals earning less than $100,000 per year and larger studios.
